Anything that you write on Medium may get some views and reads, but “SEO Content Writing” can open up huge possibilities for every writer.

This is something very, very important for you and hardly you can find such a detailed post that can change the way you write.

Pelase, don’t ignore it, it’s going to be a game-changer for you.

Give me just 15 mins and you learn about “SEO Content Writing” in detail.

Screenshot At Similarweb. Medium Traffic Analytics.

Medium.com has a global rank of 359 and a category rank of 2 with 147.8 million traffic as per Similarweb.

It means, if your post goes viral even on Medium, it will bring more reads, followers, and traffic for you as the writer needs in the first place.

But, this is not going to last for months and years. Within one week or a month, almost every viral post dies.

Now, no more reads, views, and followers, or it’s insignificant to consider.

That’s how your hours of hard work in writing a Good Article get you way less than what you deserve.

Now, take a look at this example:

My Article Ranks In Google With A Day. (Screenshot By Author)

As you can see this Medium post, which I published yesterday, ranked on the Google Search Results page and that means more and more people (not at Medium) who are searching on Google will be able to read my post.

This post is ranking in Google. Screenshot by Author at Medium.

Though it’s not raking in that first place. But it will gradually go up in rankings, and that’s why it matters.

That’s why SEO Content Writing is highly effective.

Writing SEO-optimized content (Articles) will generate more reads directly at Google and well as more readership at Medium.

I mean, if you write HIGH-QUALITY SEO-optimized content, it will have a good chance to rank on Google search results page (SERPs, Preferably on the first page of Google.)

And that will be a game changer.

  1. A broader targeted audience (Beyond Medium users) will be able to read your posts and more traffic to your posts directly from Google.
  2. Medium loves to get traffic directly from Google... You are indirectly helping Medium grow.
  3. Your conversion rate for affiliate offers or services will increase if you promote them.
  4. More reads, followers, and brand deals.
  5. It will establish you as a writer.

But, it’s not going to be very, very easy. Not to disappoint you !!

Writing SEO-optimized content will require hard work, research, and some SEO skills that you will learn here in the next few minutes.

SEO Content Writing- My Complete 101 guide.

SEO copyrighting requires a good understanding of at least SEO trends and techniques.

But, if you don’t know about the basics of SEO or about on-page SEO, you can read this post to get some ideas.

SEO Content Requires Mainly 12 Things, We Are Going To Discuss Here in Detail. Here is the list:

  1. Keywords research for the targeted audience.
  2. Keywords selection and title.
  3. Related infographics creation to add to the post.
  4. H1, H3, Meta tags, and description.
  5. SEO blog post outline- Topic and sub-topics.
  6. Internal and external links.
  7. Backlinks.
  8. Post word count.
  9. strategic writing.
  10. Keywords density.
  11. Competitors analysis.
  12. Search console submission

Yes, if you focus on only these 12 things, there is a high chance of ranking on Google's first page for your topic (Keywords, Related Queries).

Let’s talk one by one in detail.

1. Keywords research ( SEO content writing topics )

It would be easy to understand with an example.

Based on you, the industry (Niche), and the audience you want to target, you can do the research to see what is being searched on Google.

Keywords research. Screenshot by Author at Ahrefs.com

I used my keyword research tool to find what people are searching for and related to “How to write” in Google.

This can be done in 2 ways.

  1. Phrase match- Generally related searches WRT your input.
  2. Questions- Related questions that are being searched.

And “KD” stands for keyword difficulty.

It means the more will be the value of KD between 0 to 100, the more difficult it would be to rank on Google.

SEO content writing examples (My Post). Screenshot at Medium.

This post that you are reading is also a good example of SEO Copyrighting and “SEO Content Writing” is the keyword for this post.

This means I am not just writing to help Medium readers, but also to help anyone who is searching for “How to write SEO optimized content” on Google.

There are many ways to find a good “keyword” to write a masterpiece around it.

The most basic yet highly effective way of finding the right keyword could be “Google search” itself.

1.1) Keywords Research Using Google (FREE)

This is a super smart, highly effective, and FREE way to find the right topic ideas and keywords for your article.

Screenshot At Google By Author. Keyword research with Google.

In this example, I have searched for “How to start a blog” on Google, and Google has some suggestions for me.

There are “search terms” that general users are looking for on Google apart from what I have searched for.

This means, these “suggested search terms” could be a good “Keyword” for you to create a Title and write SEO content.

  • These suggestions are often found at the bottom of the Google search results page (where you search).
  • You can frame a good title using these suggested “Terms”.
  • It will have great charges to rank, but the content has to beat the competition as many other people are also doing the same.
SEO content writing tutorial- People Also Ask. Screenshot At Google By Author.

For every search on Google, it also shares (suggests) some “People Also Ask” questions and answers.

There are questions “FAQ” could be another great Title as well as Keyword for SEO Copyrighting.

Even when you start to write anything on Google, YouTube, and Bing... They show “suggestions” to search. That can be a keyword too.

Basically this is something that people are searching mostly on Google (Bing, yahoo, and Youtube) and if you write PREMIUM content around that, it will rank.

Hence, I can say. It’s easy to find the keywords.

But, we also have free SEO tools for keyword research.

1.2) Free keyword research tool

I’m not promoting any of these and this is not a sponsored post. Though, I can say it is easy and free to find the right keyword using these tools.

  1. Google Keywords Planner Tool - 100% free.
  2. WordStream Keyword Research Tool (FREE).
  3. Ubersuggest (3 searches free, daily).
  4. Ahref — Free and paid plans.
  5. Semrush- Free trial available.

As you can see in the firth image of this post, these tools help you to identify the keywords with low keyword difficulty and that makes it easy for you to rank.

I will suggest doing proper research as it’s not easy to rank on the first page of Google as you may think.

Now, we are ready to create a title with your keywords. My advice can help you write a Google click-bait-free title.

2. Keywords selection and catchy blog title

Writing a catchy title can help you get way more than what writers normally think of. Google loves to rank your content higher if it fulfills three basic requirements.

  1. More clicks (CTR) on your posts on the Google results page (SERPS).
  2. High retention rate, which means that people (Users) stick with your posts after they click to read them entirely and don’t bounce back to see other results.
  3. Quality of content and platform reputation (DA, DR, TF).

That’s why your article CTR matters a lot for your blog ranking.

You need to have a “Good Catchy Title” that can compell someone (interested) to click and read the post.

Let’s keep it simple.

Image By Author Using Canva. How to create a catchy title?

Keywords can be helpful, but if you add a few things with the keywords, you can create the best title for your post.

2.1) My Advice For Catchy Titles

  1. Numbers- Add numbers (Figures) in your title to get more attention.
  2. Bold statements with your keywords work better. Example: Earned $5,000 in a month, how?
  3. Emotional and “how-to” articles rank easily and get more clicks.
  4. An effective title should be less than 70 character. However Google says there is no limit until it suits your objective.
  5. A title that talks about a comparison between two things (Pros and cons; Alternatives of something, top 5, top 10, or best of something) can rank easily as well as get more clicks.

There are many trusted ways to write a Catchy Title for your SEO copyrighting. Though, this is enough for you to start with.

Awesome, now you know how to write your blog “Title” as well as how you can find the “keywords” for the post.

Now, we are ready to write a great piece of content.

3. Infographics creation

In the era of the video revolution, reels, it’s very tough to rank your high-value content. Even Google has started to rank videos directly for your search query as a link unlike before.

It’s really important to write an article with great “Visual Content” that is self-explaining and makes it easy to skim through your post.

Until here, I have added more than 5 images that either guide you through the process of “SEO content writing” or grab your attention to read further.

That is really required for every post if you are writing something that has the scope to add infographics.

SEO Copyrighting Infographics. Created using Canva.

Adding some good infographics to your post can help you find the right attention, and ranking as well as stand out WRT to fellow writers on the same topic.

I know, it’s not easy but you can hire a Freelancer to design this for you like me or you can simply create using free graphic designing tools like CANVA.

I have spent nearly 2 days writing this content, putting hours and hours of work into designing graphics, defining the structure, and optimizing for SEO.

If it ranks with your help (If you share it), it can help me to get many new writing opportunities and that’s how it’s going to be worth my effort.

One thing, I can say.

Never deceive your readers… give as much as possible.

Always use “royalty-free” images or images that you hold the right for.

4. H1, H3, Meta tags, and description

Meta tagging is needed for SEO content writing. Being an SEO engineer, I know that you can’t frame the right content until you do this wisely.

Meta tagging helps search engine crawlers (Google and Bing) to find the right information that they can read.

Screenshot by the author at Google. Meta description as shown in Google.

Google or any other search engine system (crawler bots) that checks your post (Article) for its quality can’t read like humans.

They understand the “Keywords” mapping, title, image, and subtitle tags in the web page codes of your posts, which may not be visible to you.

This means, that even if you are writing on Medium or your WordPress blog, it is really important to tag properly.

  • H1 title user for heading.
  • H2 for main subheadings.
  • Alt tags for Images.
  • Meta description tag.

So, when you are writing a post. Make sure to structure your post so that Google will love to scan and rank it.

When you observe this post “Carefully”, you can find that I have structured this post using the title, sub-heading, and many relevant subheadings and used the word “Seo Content Writing” several times to help Google.

  1. Always write the keywords at least once in your post's image description and other stuff should have valid tagging.
  2. Sprinkle keywords in your content to make it rank. It should not be more than 1 to 2% for white hat SEO.
  3. Properly structure the post with headings, subheadings, and anything in-between.
  4. A meta description of 155–160 characters should be added for sure. At Medium, you can go to the SEO setting to set up a Meta description.

It looks like this, but you do not need to code:

Inspect any published posts to check the SEO title and other tags.

It looks like:

<title>How to start a blogging website? Step by step guide by Mani</title>
<meta name="author" content="">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width,initial-scale=1.0,maximum-scale=1" />
<meta name="description" content="Create a blog to grow your business with the help of content marketing">
<meta name="keywords" content="How to start a blog, SEO content writing" />
<link rel="canonical" href="https://sitesdesire.com/" />

Fortunately, it’s already there.

Every platform including Medium and WordPress comes with its Text Editor, which will help you to set up without coding, but you need to use it wisely.

5. SEO blog post outline (Table of content)

Only waiting for the sake of SEO will never help you rank. You need to divide your posts in a very interactive table of contents way.

  • With subheadings (As here).
  • Use related keywords in the subheading.
  • Describe in detail... But never go off the topic.

Adding a “Table of content” makes it easy for readers to quickly find the right resources in your blog section.

6. Internal and external links

Adding an internal and external link is important for SEO copyrighting.

Created using Canva. Internal and external links for SEO

Google has 200 ranking factors to determine if your “Article” will rank on the first page, second page, or nowhere.

Internal and external links are other really important factors just like the above things.

Adding a link in your “New post” of any external web post related to your content and internal posts realted to your article to boost your post authenticity and usefulness, also makes it more optimized for SEO.

Google loves to see the internal and external high-value links in your article to make it complete and more valuable from the reader's perspective.

7. Backlinks

For a post to rank, you need to get the backlinks from High DA and PA websites related to your post (Niche).

A backlink is basically a link to your post added on any other third-party website which is more credible than yours.

The more sites link to your post, the more the credibility of your website, and the better your ranking.

Backlinks. Image Created Using Canva.

You can follow simple strategies to build backlinks:

  1. Reach out to websites in the same niche and ask for guest post submissions.
  2. Find the broken links on high-value (DA) sites and ask them to replace the broken links with your related post links. Brocken link is not good for SEO and that’s why they will love to link back to you.
  3. Build the backlinks at free high authority DA 30 to DA 90+ websites. Just join and post a short content with your link.
  4. Collaborate with fellow writers and bloggers.
  5. Sometimes businesses pay to insert their links.

A high-value post will tend to its backlinks (Automatic and free) to form businesses, bloggers, and top-notch websites if you do it tightly.

That’s how SEO Content Writing can help you increase your domain authority and page authority.

8. Post word count

It has been seen statically over time that long in-depth content gets more priority over short one.

Though, in the absence of high-value posts on any website on a topic, you may find some small articles below 1000 words ranking in Google.

But, if you are a pro content marketer and writing on very competitive keywords, it will be very likely for you to find that your competitors have a word count between 2000 to 5000 words.

Google and almost all other search engine tools love to rank content that is kick-as* and leaves no stone unturned.

Write until you share every bit of your topic.

Normally, 1500 to 3000 words of the article can outperform to rank if you show some continuity and follow everything that I have shared until now and after.

That’s a proven fact and you can rely on this post. Don’t forget to share your review if you enjoyed it or want to add something in the comments.

9. Strategic writing

Even if you know the topic, technical things, and anything in between, it could be hard to increase your CRT and read ratio.

That is important.

  • It helps for better conversion.
  • Increase the level of trust.
  • Better ranking and deals.
  • More eyeballs and followers.

If a reader of your post bounces back to read another in just a few seconds or minutes, you have missed something.

Photo by Amelia Bartlett on Unsplash. SEO Content Writing.

That is the strategy to engage readers with your post.

Writing something that readers will never like to miss out on can solve your problem.

My little advice can help you with that.

  • Write politely and naturally, as you are discussing with the readers.
  • Break the sentence to make it appealing. Never write 100 to 500 words together.
  • Emotional touch and personalizing (adding examples, and problems), reference, and addressing their pain can help you to build a great relationship as a writer.
  • Support the readers first and focus on the quality of content before making money. It can be slow for you to make money, but you get a loyal audience and trust.
  • Data-driven things help to grab attention.

The more you write, the better you understand your readers and potential clients.

10. Keywords density

Keywords density is the ratio that tells you how often you are using the keyword and related keywords in your article (Post).

It shouldn’t be more than 1 to 2%. This means repeating your keywords just once to twice every 100 words.

Though, it’s not compulsory. I like to keep it light and focus more on the quality of the content.

11. Competitors analysis

SEO copyrighting can be a headache, and that’s why many established writers (especially technical writers) are taking $500 to $2,000 for just one post.

Photo by Austin Distel on Unsplash

If you are writing SEO-optimized content, you should first check what other people are writing for that specific keyword.

If you can scan their “pros and cons”, you can easily write SEO content covering what is not there to rank better.

As well as, it will make it easy for you to decide “what to include” and “what not to include” in your article.

So. It’s a game-changer step to follow.

12. Search console submission

Your SEO content writing will not work unless you are using a third-party platform like Medium, blogger, or your own blog is verified in Google, Bing, Yandex, and other search consoles.

When you write your own blog (Self-hosted), it’s literally required to get it verified for google ranking in the Google search console.

Bing webmaster tool for websites. Screenshot by Author at Bing.

Verify and submit your website sitemap to as many search engine tools as possible to get better visibility, and traffic from each platform.

Top 3 Search Engines Where You Can Verify Your Website:

  1. Google — Verify at Google search console.
  2. Bing webmaster tools
  3. Yandex

Baidu is also there but that is required only when you are targeting the audience in China.

Takeaways for you:

SEO content writing is a highly effective, necessary, and profitable way to maintain your business, traffic, reads, and followers.

I’m a freelance content writer (SEO Engineer) with 5+ years of experience. I often write to help selflessly in the first place.

SEO content writing may not be required for poems, Medium posts, and some other things, but almost every business and writers need to know this for effective writing.
